Frequently Asked Questions

How do I place a service call with your firm to repair my elevator?

For clients that have an active service contract with us, we recommend that any urgent service call be placed by phone at (916) 939-4323. You also have the option to place a call in our Service Portal on this site.

For new clients or locations that are not yet under a service contract with our firm, please contact Paul Taormina or Tracy Zenovic directly so we can get you the information to add your elevator(s) under service contract with us OR provide a quote for one-time / stand-alone service call.

What do I do if my elevator permit is expired?
The permitting inspections and annual permit renewals are handled by the State of California DIR Elevator Unit. The State is supposed to come out once a year (unannounced) and perform their routine inspection. This inspection is followed by the State mailing the “Responsible Party” (owner/manager) a copy of the inspection invoice and any open compliance requirements within 2-3 weeks. Upon receipt of this Inspection Report, please email the report to us ASAP upon receipt so we can assist you further with the compliance process.
What do I do if someone is stuck in my elevator?

While our goal is to minimize or eliminate elevator entrapments through the course of routine service and proactive partnership with building owners to upgrade their elevator equipment, unfortunately elevator entrapments do occur. When someone is trapped in the elevator, we recommend you locate what floor they are stuck on, notify us (by phone!) immediately so we can dispatch our closest available Mechanic, and reassure the trapped individual(s) that they are safe and help is on the way. If there is a medical emergency with the occupants, please call 9-1-1.

Can I pay an invoice(s) online?

Yes! We offer an online payment portal. Click on the link “Pay Your Invoice” link at the top right of our webpage in the black banner.

Do you offer wireless phone line service for my elevator emergency phone in the cab?

Yes! Over half of our clients have switched to wireless phone line service through our firm so they can cancel their (often) costly and troublesome analog “land lines” needed for emergency phone operation. If you would like a quote for wireless phone line service, please contact our team so we can provide you a quote. There is a one-time upfront cost for the installation of the special wireless elevator phone line hardware and then an on-going monthly fee that is added to your elevator service bill. We offer this service for our service clients only and will not provide this service on elevators being maintained by other elevator companies.

Does your firm provide Due Diligence when purchasing a building with an elevator?

Yes. We generally will provide no-cost consultations of elevator equipment in buildings during the sale process. It is recommended to have an elevator professional provide short and long-term recommendations for elevator equipment before a building is purchased to avoid costly or unexpected repairs or upgrades.

What does your firm specialize in?

Elevator Technology, Inc. (ETI) specializes in service, repair, Code compliance, and modernization in the greater Sacramento area.  We do some selective New Installations, but our core strength is renovating older elevator equipment and the quality of our Service / Repair Team.  We are also uniquely positioned to be able to perform elevator re-cladding in-house.

What licenses and certifications do you maintain?

We carry both a California Class B and C-11 license. Our CA license number is 797172. As such, we can be a General Contractor or Subcontractor on most elevator projects. In addition, we are signatory to the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC – Local 8 San Francisco), so our standard wages generally meet or exceed Prevailing Wage standards. Our firm’s California DIR Registration number is 1000002098.

Does your firm do Elevator Condition Assessments?

Yes. We can generally provide a No-Cost assessment of your elevator equipment, inclusive of any service deficiencies, Code-compliance concerns, ADA-compliance assessments, forecasted dates for next State-required testing, and short/long-term recommendations for CapEx and budgetary purposes. Please contact Paul Taormina or Tracy Zenovic to schedule a site visit.

Are you hiring?

To become an Elevator Apprentice or Mechanic, you must contact the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC - https://www.iuec8.org ) to see when their next open testing period is scheduled. We cannot and do not employ any non-union personnel for elevator field work.
